Getting to
know the other riders (like Neil, who at 80 was the oldest member of the
group) played a big role in making the trip a special one for me.
|
Our Cycle
America tour leader Carol Crossland (on right) did a great job of managing
the ride and taking care of everyone.
|
Preparing
to conquer Teton
Pass - the 10% grade
was one of the steepest climbs of the trip - thank goodness for granny gear!
|
|
Our
climbing effort was rewarded with a great view at the top of Teton Pass,
followed by a long descent and a top speed of 46 mph into Jackson
Hole.
|
Every
Sunday was a day off from biking and provided an opportunity to explore and
see what the local town had to offer - like this rodeo in Jackson, Wyoming.
|
The third
week of the trek began with a scenic ride through Teton National Park.
|
|
The highest
elevation of the trip was reached on a day of continuous climbing as we
crossed the Big Horn Range - requiring 11 hours to bike 90 miles, it was also
the longest time spent riding on a single day.
|
Our days began
with breaking camp and eating breakfast at the crack of dawn, which had us
riding out of town by 7 AM when the air was still cold, but the roads where
traffic free.
|
Water
stops were a welcome relief when the 100 degree weather struck as we
traversed Wyoming
on the long open roads in the middle of nowhere.
